Emotional intelligence is becoming more prominent as a strategy for identifying the potential of leaders, thus developing these demanding skillsets. Despite its popularity, however, there are few practical studies to advocate emotional intelligence’s efficacy in these areas. Therefore, the purpose of this article was to exploit the connection between emotional intelligence and effective leadership conceptually. Indeed, a modified version of the Trait Meta Mood Scale was used to assess the emotional intelligence level of 43 managers. After the research, the multifactor leadership questionnaire identified effective leaders as those who demonstrated a transformational rather than transactional leadership style. Emotional intelligence was found to be associated with various aspects of transformational leadership, which implies that it is a vital component of effective leadership. Emotional intelligence, in particular, may elaborate on how great leaders monitor and respond to subordinates, as well as how they make them feel at work.
