Compared to masking, physical distancing and ventilation, COVID-19 vaccines are the best intervention to sustainably control the pandemic. However, surveys have shown that a sizeable minority of US residents do not intend to get a COVID-19 vaccine, which could lead to sustained community transmission.

Lancet recommends some strategies to promote COVID-19 vaccine acceptance: (1) Behavioural interventions. Possible approaches could be vaccination reminders, presumptive provider communication and onsite vaccination, etc. (2) Addressing sociodemographic inequities. Access to COVID-19 vaccines should be given equitably to people, including minority ethnic and socially vulnerable communities. (3) Promoting public health communication. Accompanying conventional communication, other messaging means such as social media should be selected for maximum effect. Furthermore, countering aggressive disinformation about COVID-19 vaccines is urgently necessary.
